Four components come together to form nonviolent communication: 1) Consciousness: a system of values that encourages leading an honest, brave, cooperative, and compassionate life 2) Language: knowing how words create distance or connection 3) Communication: expressing our needs and wants, listening to others when they disagree, and working toward solutions that benefit everyone 4) Influencing others: sharing "power with others" as opposed to exercising "power over others." In order to create more fulfilling relationships and to share resources so that everyone can gain, nonviolent communication satisfies our need to improve our capacity to live with choice, purpose, and connection.
